-May 21, 2002 - Part Four - Upstairs & Entering Loews-

Standing outside Loews one last time. I've seen all of the original Star Wars movies, E.T., Pet Cematary and Pee Wee's Big Adventure (among many others) at this theater.

Looking down at Bryant & Stratton from the Loews side of the upstairs level. B&S actually stayed open for for several months after the rest of Penn Can Mall closed. The rest of The Mall would be roped off and students could only come in to go to class.

Here is the front of All American Kitchen, which was a good place to grab some food if you didn't want to go all the way downstairs to Pavones after playing some arcade games.

The entrance to Loews had deteriorated quite a bit. I remember the mass of people that would burst out of these doors after a popular movie let out.

Entering Loews we noticed the snack counter was completely gone.

All of the theater seats had been removed from the theaters and placed in the lobby where the snack counter used to be.

We were about to enter the pitch black room previously known as "Loews Theater 1".

With the only light being the spotlight from my video camera, it felt like we were in "The Blair Witch Project 3 - The Mall Witch". I remember the Loews theme song kept going thru my head while I was filming this. It was a very strange feeling being in that theater again, thinking about how many hours of my life I spent staring at that screen.

Returning to the lobby we see the seats thrown all over the place. The young construction worker who ended up being our "tour guide" told us how they found many of these seats thrown down to the main floor of The Mall. Apparently a lot of people used to break into The Mall, hang out and vandalize many of the different stores (mostly upstairs). This went on before The Auto Dealership purchased The Mall. For a couple of years there was basically nothing preventing people from breaking in, there was no security system or anyone that would check on The Mall after it closed.

John points at the Loews sticker on the Theater #2 entrance sign. We wanted to take the sticker but ended up finding an easier one to take on a theater door.
