"It's happenin' now at Penn Can Mall!"

-Classic photos sent in by Mike Hepp - page 4 -

I had almost forgotten about these flags. This picture is from February 9, 1987 and is one of my favorites from Mike's collection. He mentioned that the 70 foot poles were stored in the Sears auto center after they were taken down.

Speaking of Sears, here is the store that started it all. This photo is most likely from the late 70s, and you can click on any of these photos to see them in their original size.

This flyer is from 1981 and had a map of The Mall on the back of it, which you can check out in the Mall Map section of the site.

Here is a page from a pamphlet from 1990 promoting something called "The Fair At Penn Square". I'm not sure what that was, but I'm pretty sure it never happened.

These next couple of photos are of the many celebrities that made appearances at The Mall. Here we see our friends Ernie and Bert coming down the escalator. These photos were labeled September 1979, but I think it may have been later in the year because of all of the Christmas decorations that are up.

Here's another photo from Bert & Ernie's appearance. I would've loved to have been in this crowd! I wonder if any children were frightened by their extra-large heads.

Another awesome Sesame Street appearance, this time by Susan and Gordon. This photo was from The Mall's Second Anniversary Celebration in October of 1978, according to this newspaper article.

Another one of my favorite characters, Winnie The Pooh made an appearance in August 1977.

Here is an interesting 1982-83 advertising campaign flyer.

This photo is from 1976. I don't think I ever ate at The Beefsteak Mining Company. It probably seemed way too fancy and expensive for a kid my age. Plus, who wants to wait for food when you have pizza already made for you at Pavones?
